FitBit Insanity

Bytes from LockNet > FitBit Insanity

LockNet{We’re taking a quick break from our weekly door and lock blogging to let you know a little bit about the craziness happening at LockNet.}

I normally don’t consider myself a competitive person. In fact, I’d go as far to say that a competitive spirit is something I’ve never had to manage. Combine that with the fact that I’m the least athletic person you’ll ever meet, and it’s worked out well for me over the years.

“You want to beat me in this super short race, you say? Have at it, pal. Don’t let me stand in your way.”

“Oh you think you can lift more weight than me? You don’t even have to try. Just go ahead and accept the title of ‘winner.”

“A weight loss competition at work? Eh. I’ll sit this one out.”

But then all of that changed with the addition of one little piece of wearable technology – the FitBit.

When I first got my FitBit, I was immediately intrigued by all of the information it tracked and I thought to myself, “Self, this is going to really help you stay in shape!”

I returned to LockNet, couldn’t shut up about it, and when I went to research it, I found that you can have little competitions with other people who have the device. Katie had already been wavering on whether or not she wanted to buy a FitBit, but the discovery of some extra Best Buy bucks she found pushed her over the edge, so she and Zach both purchased one.

Perfect. I now had two people at work I could hold a friendly little competition with.

Piece of cake, right?

Wrong.

So wrong.

FitBit’s Work Week Hustle Might Be Ruining Lives at LockNet

The Work Week Hustle challenge keeps track of everyone’s steps, Monday through Friday, as long as they sync their FitBit with the app on their phone.

It has become all out madness here in the office. More people purchased FitBits to get in on the challenge.

People began to give up their Crocs (I’m looking at you, Zach) in favor of tennis shoes so they could sneak in some extra steps at lunch.

People started to walk in place if they didn’t have anywhere to walk.

Some people even stayed up until midnight to go far beyond the typical step goal for the day.

In short, we are all shells of our former selves because of the Work Week Hustle.

And while, sure it might help up lose weight, what good is it going to do us if we all lose our minds right along with it?

I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Now excuse me, I’m in fourth place and that is absolutely not ok.
