LockNet History With the White House

Bytes from LockNet > LockNet History With the White House

locknetWhen you work at a company that runs four generations deep, you’re bound to get at least a few amusing stories about things that have happened.

With LockNet, we’re lucky enough to have several.

Not too long ago I told you all about the LockNet ties with the Sure-Fire Blowtorch, which is a fun story to tell, but also gives you a glimpse into how serious we take customer service.

The following story, though, happens to be my favorite. You might be familiar with it if you caught May’s video newsletter, but for those who didn’t, read on.

LockNet and the White House

As you may already know, the lock industry runs deep in the Miller’s genes so it’s no surprise to learn the grandfather of LockNet CEO, Chad Miller, was a locksmith himself. In fact, he was one of the most renowned locksmiths in the Washington, D.C. area.

When you have all of that information, it’s not all that surprising to find out when the president at the time had a safe he couldn’t unlock, he called Harry Miller.

Harry was well-versed in picking a variety of safes and the president’s wasn’t any exception. When he was called that day, he quoted the president what he thought was a fair price and the president agreed.

When Harry arrived to manipulate the safe, it took him maybe less than five minutes. Of course, the president was shocked and couldn’t imagine paying that sum of money for a job that took such little time.

In fact, he was so shocked, he refused to pay it.

Completely unfazed, Harry calmly closed the safe and locked it. If the president wasn’t willing to pay the agreed upon sum, then Harry told him he could find someone else to manipulate his safe for him.

As you can imagine, this didn’t go over very well and eventually the two were able to come to an agreement. All ended well for both parties. Harry got paid and the president was able to remove his valuables from his safe.

See? What’d I tell you? It’s a fun story, which is one of the many bonuses you get when working for a small, family owned business like LockNet.
